A visit from my favorite insect

Wow, I haven't seen one of these in basically forever. I did my first science project on them in Junior High back in Champaign, Illinois although the ones that hung on our screens were brown. Perhaps a different variety.

A reward for sweeping the patio this morning.

  1. Wow, I haven't seen a mantis in a very long time. That is a great specimen.

    God bless.

  2. Isn't it great to get excited over some of the same things we got excited about as kids.

  3. Such a coincidence to read this, Juhli We saw one while hiking in Morro Bay during our recent trip and I was so delighted. 'Ours' was the color of the dried shrubs it was clinging to.

    1. That is the color I recall from childhood. Now to look up if they take on the color of the vegetation they are near. Moro Bay is so beautiful.

  4. I love bugs! What a surprise. I remember hunting for their cocoons as a child.

  5. Can they camouflage? Or are the ones the others are describing just a different variety? Nice to be greeted by this critter this morning. We have a stray kitty who stops by our back porch every day.
