Five on Friday

I was busy with appointments and meetings this week but we had fun too.

1. Last Friday night we went to a Beatles tribute band concert in our 55+ community. It was quite good but did not fill all the seats like the Beach Boys tribute band did previously. $5 a person and 2 hours of good music = fun.

2. Last minute invite to join FIL, great aunt and a cousin for brunch at his assisted living facility. Despite having eaten late breakfasts due to the time change we both managed to eat a full meal LOL.

3. Pet club meeting on Monday evening was for the cat lovers. Have you heard of cat cafes? There is one nearby. The cats are all from the Camarillo shelter and up for adoption. Not my thing but it is clearly fun for others.

4. Appointments galore: vet for monthly Addison's disease shot, haircut, massage plus last art history class for a while.

5. Went to the local brewery with a cousin and enjoyed pizza and beer plus a good visit.

My attempts to add carefully to my wardrobe resulted in lots of returns this week. A top supposed to be exactly like on that fits well was probably 2 sized smaller, the hunt for new athletic shoes may have produced a pair (white but I don't care at this point!), and a skirt I had hoped might work for the wedding BBQ was really crummy material. Sigh.

Any one else hating the advent of mostly online clothes shopping coupled with an abundance of clothes that no one seems to want or gaps in sizing stock in the traditional stores?

  1. I find myself searching for online sites that allow me to walk returns back to their corresponding brick & mortar stores, primarily Macy's, JCPenney, and H&M. Then I happily order away in a variety of sizes, and try on the items here at home once they arrive, returning what doesn't work in person at my convenience.

I do enjoy looking for cute, casual dresses in person. My go-to stores for these are JCPenney, TJMaxx and SteinMart.

Re: pants - I found a style of skinny jeans at H&M a few years ago that fit me perfectly, and over the years since have ordered them online in every color and style from white to waxed black (look it up!). This has made things so, so easy in that I simply change out my tops to match the season or current trends. Yeah for skinny jeans, which work with virtually every style of top and shoe. May they never go out of style!

    1. I'm thinking of limiting the stores too but haven't tried H&M. I'll have to go visit the one in Oxnard - thanks for the suggestion.

  2. March seems to be flying by and I'm looking forward to spring. Enough winter! Lots of fun stuff this past week with a Home Routes house concert. The performers stayed an extra day. Then it was card night at friends, then dinner out with my young cousin. And today a girls' weekend in a nearby city to take in a concert. Lots of good walking in milder temperatures. My wardrobe get recycled and repurposed. I haven't bought new clothes since last summer. I'm always looking for the best fitting jeans/slacks, more jeans in retirement.

    1. I had to look up the Home Routes house concert and now I wish there was something like that here! What an interesting week you had. I am trying to get to the same point with my wardrobe but what with changing colors and style as well as moving to a different climate and lifestyle I'm still in process.

  3. Like Tamara, I tend to choose stores that allow in store returns. Also, I have three favorite stores and have learned that their photos are fairly true (I'm a Christopher and Banks girl for casual attire). I do enjoy shopping in person thoght as well and have a couple boutique stores near me. I cannot do jeans well with my leg scars but I have found a pair of stretch jeans that work very well and in the winter I often wear velor leggings..I do agree that there is just too much bad quality and "fast fasion". But I like to by clothes and keep them for awhile, lol. Hopefully, the dress I ordered will be all Ihoped!

  4. When I went from full time to on call, my work assignments are usually only two to three days in duration and in different locations. I cut WAY back on work wardrobe. Now I have booked an entire month of full-time covering for someone who will be having and recovering from surgery. I think I'm going to be wearing the same three pair of slacks and tops over and over and over. And over. :)

    1. I can see that you do love shopping by your fun outfits on your blog! I'm simply not as adventurous and want a small wardrobe where each item is at least and 8 - fantasy life I know.
