Life happens - Thriving week 38

My social life is looking up. I had a long coffee get together with a neighbor I really enjoy and have another scheduled with a new acquaintance. It takes time to find friends.

We have had our share of medical visits but everything is ok so far. I get my flu shot today and see the podiatrist and get a mammogram and Covid shot next week. Then I will be done for now.

Even the pup went to the Dr but doesn’t have an ear infection even though he digs at one ear. Hubby does have to see a specialist in mid October to rule out a potentially serious thing but we expect that to be fine too. Fingers crossed.

After all the drama and frustration about our doctor’s medical group not continuing their contract with our secondary insurance they signed a new one  2 1/2 months after the other contract ended. You do get 3 months in network coverage after a contract ends so that is why we kept our appointments. We like our doctor but the drama about coverage plus the distance to covered specialists and hospitals is just not going to work.

Kaiser is in our near future as it is the mega provider and operates two hospitals and many other facilities very close by. Once we get through the process of switching it will be fine and as we get older it will be so much easier to access care.

  1. Thanks for the reminder, I need to schedule Covid, pneumonia, shingles, and RSV vaccines. Hope your hubby gets a good report in October.

    1. That’s a lot of vaccines-good for you. At least for now RSV is every other year.

  2. Not sure about the vaccines this time around. In fact, we have skipped the flu shot for at least 2 years now. Just worried especially about the Covid vaccine.

How frustrating all of this mess has been with your health insurance. I am interested to see what our insurance pays on my ER visit out of state/network. Hope what the insurance doesn't pay, Medicare will or vice versa.

Yay for a successful, enjoyable coffee date with your new friend.

    1. My research shows this year’s Covid vaccine targets the strains that are going around right now and should reduce severity of illness. The flu shots effectiveness vary year to year depending on how rapidly the virus mutates/what strains are in circulation.
