Laundry day haiku

Background

Noise of tumbling

Dry clothes

A while ago I decided to try my hand at writing Haiku. The above is the traditional form and below is the modern form.

Books read though the day

Words piling up in my head

Make a happy girl

  1. I've never understood the rules for writing Haiku, but they sure do seem to be a popular writing exercise.

    1. The modern ones aren’t as restrictive so it was more fun.

  2. Gosh, I remember writing Haiku years ago, and then when I taught school, I always enjoyed reading my students' Haiku. I still remember how frustrated some of them would become because writing in a measured, spare style isn't always easy. Thanks for the memories!

    2. Juhli, you did very well! I especially liked the line that said "Words piling up in my head." Your haiku conjured up a visual picture and relayed information about you.

  3. I didn't know that there was a modern version of writing Haiku. That was one form of poetry I could never get into. I do like your modern form though.

    God bless.

    1. Thanks. I didn’t know either until I researched how to write it.

  4. I always struggled when my English teachers would suggest that we write a haiku. My syllables never came out right!! But the modern version seems a bit more flexible. Both of your poems are fun. I could envision the clothes - soft, white towels - tumbling in the dryer. Did laundry today!!
