Covid-19 Shutdown Day 11: Making an effort to stay positive

Anyone else finding it is taking an effort to stay positive during shutdown?

Generally I wake up in a good mood but not today so I am working at it. Dressed as though I was going somewhere, thought about the nice phone call I had last night with my older son and DIL and made a few goal oriented plans for the day.

Connecting while Distancing - Called a local friend who is struggling with having to stay home but is doing it of course. Messaged a friend in NYC.

Carrying On - Made granola for the first time in many years so we have cranberry almond granola to add some variety to breakfast.

After checking that they would come get her if needed, I started putting together detailed instructions for my local son and DIL regarding our dog's needs and where to find everything. I realized we needed a specific plan for her care in case we were too sick to care for her. Not planning on having to implement it LOL.

A long dog walk.

Took pictures of all the flowers in bloom around my house. Nature continues.
Thankful for - The beauty of these flowers and my ability to see them.

  1. Hi Juhli, the only way I can cope is by keeping busy. I have more chores to do as I stopped our cleaners and ironing service a couple of weeks ago. Consequently I am more tired and sleep well. In the afternoon I do some knitting, gardening or crafting. At 5.30pm uk time there’s a live Youtube link to Gareth Malones Great British Chorus so we have 30 minutes of live singing with my Mum. Dinner, then tv. I miss my choir and friends but reckon if we all stick to the lockdown the quicker this will be over. Nearly two weeks down now as I started self isolating earlier than the government said. Keep your spirits up!

    1. Thank you Catherine. I agree that the better we all do this the sooner it will help.

  2. Down days - goodness, yes. There is a sameness to our days at the moment that is disconcerting. Shopping for food is no longer pleasant, so my cooking has changed in ways I don't care for. I miss preparing thoughtful, produce-heavy meals more than I would have realized. I miss the many out-of-house activities that defined our week.

On the bright side, however, my yard and home are positively sparkling clean and tidy at the moment. I'm reading a lot. Our TV viewing has actually decreased in that we are playing games more in the evening, and setting up a growing number of Zoom video dates now that we have the hang of it. This weekend may actually feel like a weekend, in fact, in that we have three Zoom nights in a row with two sets of friends, and our book club. I'll get dressed up a tad, wear makeup(!), and for sure there will be wine!

I am really appreciative of your daily posts, Juhli. It's something i loom forward to during these difficult times.

    1. Thank you for your thoughtful reply. We are using Zoom for the first time tomorrow to join in celebrating an aunt's 92 birthday. Assuming it works like other videoconferencing programs used in the past. I'll have to see if I can get others to get on board as your plans sound great.

  3. Your flowers are a beautiful sight. We are still in late winter here & woke up to a fogging frosty morning. I've enjoyed reading your shutdown dairy.

  4. I don't really know how I feel...numb I guess would be the best way to express it. I can't sleep without taking a sleeping pill. Otherwise I wake up a couple of hours after going to bed with all the negative thoughts I'm able to suppress during the day.

    1. A hopefully helpful note that I started out like you, back a couple of weeks ago, during what I now realize was my 'in shock' phase, but have since moved toward acceptance, at which point I was finally able to sleep again.

    2. I'm sure most of us share your feelings and thoughts - this is tough and scary. I have found myself up for a long stretch of time in the middle of the night a couple of times but then go back to sleep. I'm finding both the acceptance and making an effort to be sure I am physically tired helps some.

  5. Your flower finds boosted my spirits today! I'm a silver lining finder, but am desperately missing my children and grands... The curse of liking your offspring and theirs!

    1. It is a lovely curse though! I too am a silver lining finder but this prolonged uncertainty and change is difficult for anyone.

  6. I try to keep my spirits up by getting outside. Still too cold to work in the yard, but hopefully very soon.

    God bless.
