“Not what we have but what we enjoy, constitutes our abundance.” - Epicurious

When I was volunteering at the chef demo at the botanical garden yesterday (not sure why they do it on a rainy day but oh well) I noticed this quote above the fireplace.  Makes you think doesn't it?

So what do you enjoy that doesn't fit with what you have?  How much time do you spend on what you have instead of on what you enjoy?  How can you get a better balance between the two?

During this rather dull, rainy weekend with a sick hubby I mentioned the idea that when we move in 5 1/2 years (but who is counting LOL) we should only take our personal items and our dog.  Then we could start over and only have the things that fit the life we want then!  He started to say "But we should take the kitchen stuff and the living room furniture ..." so I mentioned the cost of moving it ourselves to the opposite side of the country and how old the furniture would all be by then vs. the cost of getting just what we want.  He looked thoughtful.  It is a start at least and we have a lot of time to think about it.

  1. I sometimes fantasize of selling my house and most of its possessions with it. Wouldn't a clean slate be awesome? And it's not that I am unhappy with what I have in any way...it just would be fun to start again and build less.

    1. You put it so well - "build less". I don't know what would happen when I actually went through things but I would like to build a future material world that fit my life then - not squeeze in the belongings collected over my adult life.

  2. Great quote, sometimes I would like a new home with concret floors and a drain, just hose it all down at the end of the day
