| Help! I'm coming undone! |
1. Cute little Squishmallow needed stitches. I was happy my granddaughter asked if I could fix it. Years of experience repairing dog toys pays off.
2. Apparently we weren't done with accidents. Friday I tripped on a stepping stone in our yard and hit a stone edge with my right hand when I fell. The stone was driven into my hand leaving a very impressive bruise and a jagged gash in the area below my thumb. Nothing broken & I got myself up so we doctored it at home. It is healing fine, but boy did that hurt. Moral of the story is don't wear flip flops outside even if just going out a for a short time! Already knew that but ...
I did actually learn something though. Given the size and location of the bruise I looked up how to help one heal. Ice for the first 48 hours and then heat to help the blood get reabsorbed. I didn't know about heat for a bruise. It did help.
3. Six swim meet events in two days. That grandgirl is understandably tired, but her strokes looked good and she beat her previous times. It is hard to go up an age group and be one of the youngest again. She has a good attitude and has fun.
4. After Sunday's swim events we went to our son's and DIL's for a late lunch and family time which was fun.

5. Our plan to combine exploring a bit locally, using a gift card from Christmas, and going out for lunch last Friday was cancelled by my fall. (I had to pause Spring deep cleaning too - sad/not sad!) We went out Monday instead and it was fun to see a different area nearby plus have some good Mexican food for lunch.

It seems sometimes these accidents just come out of the blue. I'm glad it was ok though.
ReplyDeleteThey do! This was due to the wrong shoes for the activity - won't happen again.
Delete'Squishmallow' is possibly the cutest name for a stuffie that I've ever heard. ❤
ReplyDeleteRe: your fall. First, so sorry! Secondly, my spouse has experienced some game changing falls (he knocked out his front teeth in one!) and now uses a walking cane everywhere he goes. It has seemed to have made a very bit and very good difference as he has not fallen again since he began using it.
I'm still in great balance control, as is my 90 year of father, still, so I'm hoping my quick response will continue. Time will tell.
Wow, your spouse's fall sounds very painful and am glad it has not been repeated. 99% of the time it is all about balance and recovery. I'm actually not concerned as it was my flip flop catching on a stepping stone edge and recovery was not possible. Usually I just regain balance with a hop and move one.
DeleteOh, gracious!! I just wrote in a comment on your moving post that I hope you can enjoy your outdoor space this summer and now I am reading about your fall. I am so sorry. Good to know about applying heat to disperse a bruise. Glad you weren't badly hurt. My granddaughter fell flat on her face yesterday in flipflops on our stone path in the backyard. She hurt her wrist but nothing was broken, thank goodness. I just purchased my first pair of 'barefoot' walking shoes that are supposed to be good for improving balance. I like them very much because I can feel what is below my feet, as in uneven footing, the edges on steps, etc.
ReplyDeleteOuch for your granddaughter! Flip flops and stone paths seem not to mix well. Interesting about the "barefoot" walking shoes and balance - hope it works out for you.
