Thrifty Thursday

"Spend where you find value; save on the rest."

I found the 14" square picture above in a free box on the street while taking a walk. I knew it just needed to be taken apart and the glass and frame cleaned well. It is going to be hung in our dining room right above where it is sitting on the chair and goes really well with the other art in that room. the frame also mimics the gray color of the built in 1950s hutch. I wasn't looking for any art for that room but it is perfect and free. We even have picture hooks in our stash!

A post on The Frugal Girl reminded me that I had two boxes of different sized exam gloves purchased at the beginning of the pandemic and never used. My rubber gloves fell apart so I moved those boxes to the garage to use for messy jobs even if it is use and toss. They weren't doing us any good sitting in the first aid cupboard and they are paid for (hah!)

I finished the exercise healthy living plan through my Kaiser Advantage program and will be paid $20 via a medical expense debit card which is a bonus. Although I can’t say I am exercising more as a result I am clearer about the type of exercise I need going forward during this phase of life. For example, impact exercises for bone strengthening. I also am going to work with my Pilates trainer on improving my ability to jump and the number of modified push ups I can do in sequence.

Sticking with only library books still and I have plenty despite how much I read.

In the maybe it will save category (and spend where you find value), I bought 2 jars of our favorite Bonne Maman jams before tariffs kick in (maybe they will and maybe they won't!). Regardless, they will be used. I feel like I should buy more and may do so. It is hard to know what to stock up on with the wild swings in potential tariffs.

  1. What a lovely art work to hang on the wall. I am definitely going to have to pull out the gloves we purchased during the pandemic to use them up.

    God bless.

  2. What a great find - I would have snapped it up, too! Gloves are great for so many things - I like using them for food prep. Saves my hands from repeated washing when I have a messy task, like deboning a chicken, for example.

    1. DH hung it up today and it fits in the dining room perfectly. Nice to have a little decor change.

  3. Perfect art for that spot! Yesterday I roasted a turkey, and now I am kicking myself for not thinking to use gloves for deboning as per Gina's comment! Will definitely be trying that suggestion!

  4. Are you a Costco member? They carry Bonne Maman most of the time. The Kirkland brand organic strawberry spread is also very good, and has less sugar. The new art it really nice looking.

    1. There are just the two of us so we haven't joined Costco as we don't buy enough IMO. I was actually trying to make the point of stocking up on imported goods from EU countries given the tariffs "strategy" of the current administration. Good to know about the Kirkland brand though as a neighbor has offered to take me to Costco with her if I want.
