Rainy Day Musings

Thanks to weather.com I knew it was going to be a rainy day all day today and elected to make it a laundry and paperwork catch up day at home. We'll see if that lasts or if I get cabin fever and make an escape this afternoon.

So while the laundry is drying (takes forever but thank goodness I don't have to hang it up or iron it!), here is what is going on in my simple life.

1. The new down comforter for the second bedroom arrived and it is just the right color and much larger than the old one - yeah! Tonight for the sleep test.

BTW, I don't want to buy a headboard. We also can't hang anything heavy or with glass in it over the bed due to earthquakes, but really want some color in there.

Perhaps I need to get curtains for the window to add some color and warmth.

A painted headboard or wallpaper?

Concept of a darker color painted headboard - not the colors!

2. It popped into my head this morning that it would be fun to send our granddaughter a musical snow globe. This one looks cute! Penguin musical snow globe

3. I refuse to be cold in my house this winter and also refuse to crank up the heat because it just goes up to the high ceiling and/or into the attic. We fixed the insulation last year - could add more but don't really think it would help that much. We also bought small electric heaters for by our desks in the added on rooms and that helps. So far I have bought silk underwear - tanks and long sleeve - and that is helping. I'm going to look for another vest and a wear with anything warm cardigan. I ordered some new PJs and socks for sleeping. This is the joy of coastal S. Cal and old housing stock in the winter folks.

  1. Love the idea of a painted headboard or strips. I never would have thought that you can't have headboards or pictures above a bed but it makes sense in your area of the country.

I have found that wearing leg warmers and wrist warmers works really well for keeping your whole body much warmer.

    1. We could have a headboard - I just don't want to buy one! Great idea for leg and wrist warmers. I like a scarf around my neck.

  2. I'm with you. I hate to be cold in the winter. I wear my Irish wool sweater. And when that doesn't work I decamp to Florida.

    1. Yes, Florida is more consistently warm than California in the winter. A bit far for me though!

  3. I love those curtains but I think the painted wall headboard is a great idea. I'll admit I never thought of that but it is perfect for earthquake zones.

  4. I like the painted headboard idea. If it fits your style you might try a lightweight tapestry to add some color, as long as you could secure it to the wall. Sounds like you have gotten so many projects done in your house!

  5. Me, I vote for the painted headboard.

    God bless.

  6. We're in Santa Rosa right now. In our way to Arizona. Such rain on 101! I vote for the painted headboard.

  7. I really like your darker color painted headboard.

This Etsy shop's has some fun and inexpensive headboard decals: https://www.etsy.com/listing/97000885/wrought-iron-style-headboard-decal-vinyl?gpla=1&gao=1&utm_campaign=shopping_us_potandkettlestudios_sfc_osa&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_custom1=0&utm_content=6233061&gclid=Cj0KCQiA_rfvBRCPARIsANlV66MnWtNWTKXDI2kh7KdlazVBAubPQ3LRCzIZHM4r2OYzYY7fwlM2u-oaAtbgEALw_wcB

And a big AMEN! to the thankfulness for no ironing! :)

    1. Decals are a cool idea. I saw yesterday that Home Depot has whole wall mural wallpaper. So many options!

    2. I grew up with massive whole wall mural wallpapers! My mother's department (where I spent quite a few evenings and weekends) shared a building on a Navy base with a parachute packing department (which has a name that I can't remember). The whole building had no windows. To make it more worker friendly, they put up the murals. They had to be at least 10' x 20' panaramas. I wonder how much the federal government paid for those. :)

  8. The painted headboard is unique and fun. Maybe the decals mentioned above or even fabric framed above the bed? My daughter has purchased some 3D paper flowers for my granddaughter's room and they are lovely. Or removable wall paper? https://www.etsy.com/listing/613402318/wild-flowers-removable-wallpaper-garden?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=wall+flowers&ref=sc_gallery-1-5&plkey=950b3b98fcaa043a994fcb8c5a60417048ca3334%3A613402318&pro=1

    1. I love the removable wallpaper! Would need something with an ivory background so will look around. Wonder if it would stick to a textured wall?

  9. Love the painted headboard! Paired with fun curtains, the two would really brighten up the room. If that feels like too much and you want the pattern, why not hang the (or a) curtains at the head of the bed?

Nicely Done!

Looks nicer than I would have arranged it! We sent olives and mustard too.
