Where do you like to stay current?

Yesterday I bought a new sweater. No big deal. People do this all the time.

However, as I was shopping I noticed I passed by the classic styles and colors in search of something that had a touch of being on trend without being trendy. For me that meant a current color plus a bit of an oversized look which in fact may not be best for my body shape but helps make me feel current.

So fashion is one area to consider but where else do you try to stay current?

I do follow the news enough to know the main stories. However, both my sons deliberately ignore it.

I keep track of our financial situation monthly.

I'm not an early adopter but I keep our software and passwords up to date and like to know where technology is headed.

I like to know the weather predictions.

I use Facebook, texts, email and phone calls to stay current with friends and family.

To a lesser extent I keep current on medical advances and nutritional guidelines.

That is all I can think of right now but I am curious where you spend time staying current?

  1. I have a young cousin 40 yrs younger than me who keeps me current without too much eye rolling! I listen to the news on the radio each morning and that's usually enough news for the day. I seldom tune into evening news. I really enjoy morning talk/lifestyle programs. CBC radio programs give me my fill of political updates. I'm not tuned into the latest social media. It's amazing what I don't need to know.

    1. I like the idea of what I don't need to know.

  2. I try to keep current so that I’m able to relate to the younger members of the family. I’m fairly tech savvy, use an iPad and phone, can text and use apps. I read about fashion trends but adapt them for my age and shape. I love cookery and recipe trends. I experiment with makeup to avoid looking too dated. I find the news and current affairs depressing as a rule but try to keep up.
I’ve lost interest in current music and never listen to any now. I just tune into talk radio, generally BBC Radio 4 and classical music too. I think to be interesting you have to keep interested in what’s going on.

    1. Another great quote: I think to be interesting you have to keep interested in what’s going on. I have found the same thing about music although I would like to see the show Hamilton which uses rap which normally I wouldn't listen to. Tickets too expensive for me though.

  3. What an interesting question. Pausing a moment to reflect on it. I watch the news and weather, I have a Samsung fitness watch that alert me to breaking news and news app on my phone. But I never know details just basic facts. My daughters keep me informed about what they call "trash" - the news on Angelina, Prince Harry, etc. As far as fashion goes, I am not ever necessarily up-to-date or current. But through blog posts and Pinterest, and online shopping sites and trips to stores, I am at somewhat aware of what's trending.

    1. I chuckled about your daughters keeping you informed about celebrity news. Do you like your fitness watch? I need to consider a steps tracker that really works.

  4. Well, my hair style for sure . . . it's my biggest personal $ expense! I've had more hairstyles and highlights over the years than I can count, but it is the #1 thing I do that makes me feel attractive when I step out into the world.

I do keep an eye on trends with regard to my clothes, shoes and accessories as well, even though I hate to shop(!). My dream is to simply have the items magically appear in my closet somehow!

Otherwise, I enjoy staying up on trends with regard to home decorating. I'm not inclined to rush out and change things at the drop of a hat, but when it is time to make a big change, like paint, flooring or new furniture, I appreciate that when doing so I have a basic awareness of what is current.

Where I'm trying to not be current currently is with regard to the news. The important stuff will always come through somehow, but the rest is just negative energy that is not important enough to interrupt my well being.

    1. I like your take on the news. I think we are clones when it comes to clothing - great items for me magically appearing in my closet would be great and so less time consuming.
