Five things Friday #20 - Home edition

1. Continuing my commitment to my Spring yard clean up and maintenance of 15-30 minutes work 1-2 days a week. I spend longer, but it seems less onerous this way and I can see the progress.

2. Doing the same with infrequent cleaning tasks inside the house. This week we joined forces to clean the stove hood and hood filters.

3. Our water district published a very helpful monthly irrigation settings guide for our county with details for each type of irrigation system. We will change ours to match the appropriate recommendations for our system.

4. We continue to have no new home improvement/repair projects planned for the near term as part of our reducing stress plan for a few months. There are still things that we need to have done but they will wait while we enjoy life more.

5. We tried a new recipe and a new way of cooking potatoes.

  • Made a delicious veggie heavy chicken soup using half the recommended chicken in this recipe and adding oregano and Italian seasoning. Had everything on hand. Chicken Vegetable soup
  • Hubby suggested cooking some small red potatoes in the microwave so I looked up how to do it. The AI recommendation came out great and this will probably replace boiling them.  Directions: Microwave small red potatoes by washing them, piercing each with a fork and placing them in a microwave safe dish with 1-3 tablespoons of water. Cover the dish and microwave on high for 5-8 minutes, stirring halfway through, until a fork slides in easily.

  1. I am so with you on Item 4 - we have budgeted for a new roof, but I am procrastinating on moving forward because of the stress that I know will be involved. I think I still have some PTSD from our 2024 whole house remodel!

  2. The only home improvement we will be doing is some deck railing and wooden window frame painting this year. We had a rest from those types of projects last year.

    God bless.

    1. Taking a rest when home improvement isn't urgent is very helpful I'm finding.

  3. I like your idea of putting a hold on big home projects. I have been dragging my heels on a couple of ones at my house - but the rain is making it challenging, so i am reading with my feet up instead. (:

  4. Glad to catch up with you. We are getting some little things done around the house this season without feeling too stressed yet. But I want to look into new carpeting or flooring in our bedrooms and that will be extremely expensive and stressful, I am sure. Nice that you are taking a break from repairs to just enjoy life. They are never-ending.
Have been thinking I would make a chicken noodle soup so check out the recipe you linked. Love the idea of adding the veggies. Especially the broccoli. Will do that with my favorite recipe.
