It’s officially summer and I want to get out and about

And I think I am finally getting used to what that means weather wise here in the Berkeley area. I reminded myself that although I have lived almost all my life in areas of the country where summer is HOT, there were those 6 years in Seattle lol. We are having warmish sunny days and in September the real hot ones will arrive and of course there is no rain.

And after living here for two years I really want to get out and do more. Hence, my summer exploring idea list.

DONE - Go to the upscale farmer’s market for fun. Live music, lovely if expensive organic produce, flowers and baked goods plus great smelling food stands and trucks. We only bought produce and fancy hummus but I have high hopes for the peaches.

The Berkeley Art Museum (possibly with a granddaughter or 2 when they have their art lab)

Car show on July 4th (we did this last year and it is a good walk plus fun to look at the old cars)

A botanical garden (we have two very large ones to choose from)

Ice cream or frozen yogurt plus a meandering walk

Go swimming (the city pool is an easy walk away)

San Francisco, Sonoma or somewhere in Marin county

A state park, the zoo, a museum, a beach, or winery - so many options

  2. What a great area to live! I am hoping the river will be warm enough for swimming so. It's been so hot, it will be such a relief to be able to swim outside.

  3. It is already high 90s here; too hot to be out for long...for me anyway.
I'm so glad you mentioned the farmer's market. I still haven't made it to ours, but your mention made me look at the calendar, and it should be this Saturday. It's the 2nd and 4th Sats, and I always forget. We went once on the wrong weekend. :( Will put it on the calendar now, and if we go early it shouldn't be too hot.

  4. Goodness, you are in such a vibrant area, I would imagine your primary limitations are time, not things to do.😊

I do remember the summer 'heat' in the Bay Area well. My daughter was born in the East Bay during a job assignment there, and then lived there post-college. We always enjoyed our visits there, and the wonderful array of things there were to do. Enjoy your summer planning!

  5. You certainly have no shortage of possible activities for the summer. Did I read right that September is the warmest month of 'summer'? Our September can certainly be toasty, too. How nice that the city pool is within walking distance. And 2 botanical gardens to choose from. Hope you get checkmarks for every one of your plans!!

    1. Yes, September is the hottest month. June can be down jacket weather or warm and it changes daily.

  6. I just looked at your profile & it says you live in Atlanta - which I thought was weird when you said you weren't having the same heat we are having here in the east right now! I see you are actually in CA!
(doesn't take much to confuse me! ha!)
