Seven not Five on Friday: Jan 31, 2025

One last weekly wrap up for January.

We are spending the morning at the 2nd grader’s school for Grandfriend’s Day. Looking forward to seeing her in that environment.

1. Seven of us headed to Fairyland in Oakland this past Sunday morning for what was billed as their Lunar New Year celebration. There wasn’t much related to that and the kids were only interested in the food part however they had a really good time and that is all that mattered. It was cold but the adults (DIL, hubby, me, other Grandma) were warm enough and the kids were as usual shedding coats as the ran around.

The 2 Grandgirls and their cousin found plenty of fun even though the older 2 are too tall to go on most of the rides. The almost 2 year old was pretty fearless and ran her little legs off. She kept running up to us and announcing “E** did it!” when she did something new. Of course we squeezed into the little train ride because once she saw the “choo-choo” it was all about riding the train even though she had to wait in line quite a while.

Our son stayed home and cooked us all an amazing lunch to round out the day. I’m not posting pictures because the grandgirls pictures are wisely not allowed on social media.

2. I'm zipping through the 52 book challenge for 2025. Counting what I read in late December and January, I've read books for 23 of the 52 prompts and, yes, I need to find other things I enjoy to do! I think going forward I will only post about books that are a 4 or higher.

3. I got distracted from finishing the office upgrade because we decided to purchase a new tv and tv stand. That did check off one thing for the family room upgrade though by adding extra storage. I think finding pictures I like for the office and the main bedroom will have to be a long term project as I really want to find something I think is really right for the spaces. February will focus on finishing the office and spiffing up the dining room.

4. We have gotten hooked on watching the new season of Miss Scarlett on Sunday nights. I watched all prior seasons but Hubby has jumped in at this point.

5. A really hard workout at Pilates - but that is why I am there.

6. I really appreciated our city recycling center that takes so much. Hubby dropped off the styrofoam and large boxes from our tv and tv stand purchases. We also took the old tv to Goodwill as the SF Bay Area Goodwill has workers dedicated to processing technology for sale, parts, or recycling.

7. Treated myself to a turkey, pesto, spinach panini from my local coffee shop as I am tired of lunches from home and oddly we have no leftovers. It is so filling that it gives me two lunches and a nice change.

  2. Sounds like a good week especially since the next week looks VERY rainy. The turkey sandwich sounds good. One of my personal intentions this year is to go out and have lunch by myself. We just finished the latest Shetland. It's good but not as good as when it was Jimmy Perez. We watched one episode of Miss Scarlett and wasn't too enamored but maybe we;ll go back since we ran out of things.
