Week 7 of Shutdown: Day 51 (Maybe?) & Happy Monday.

I gave in and went to Starbuck's for a latte mid-afternoon today so the drive thru went quickly. My excuse is that the French Press was in the dishwasher in mid-cycle at the time. I am really finding the latte a treat after all these weeks!

I used Sprouts as my week's grocery destination and was able to find green lentils plus some other things on my list. They had just a little chicken but not what I wanted so I got ground turkey. Lots of that, beef and fish. So I ordered some chicken breasts from a local restaurants "market" and we got take out dinner too. I am seeing that my lets see what is available approach to the grocery scavenger hunt is what is working best. Hubby plans to go to Trader Joe's on Wednesday so we'll see what he can get there. Not complaining as it quite possible to eat really well with what is in the stores - just maybe not what you have in mind.

I gave up on the second batch of gifted homemade masks as they don't fit as well as the first ones so I ordered one from an Etsy vendor. Hopefully it fits. I like the looks of the LA Made ones but they are only selling in batches of 5 which will be needed if we have to start wearing them everywhere in the future but is too many right now.

I am now officially President of my women's club and what a challenge it is going to be to keep our members involved, engaged and feeling that the club is worthwhile if we can't in fact have meetings. It will be interesting to see what we all come up with.

Our first step was to pay for a Zoom subscription that allows two hosts so we can have longer meetings that way. Everything else will have a Plan A (normal) and a Plan B (socially distanced) and we will have to create new socializing and service avenues. Well I did want a project!

It is interesting though that some our renters who give dance lessons, etc. are assuming they will be able to start back up on July 1st. I'm happy that they are optimistic.

If any of you are in groups that are experimenting with ways to continue while distancing let me know what is working please.

  1. I don't have any advice to share about running groups, but the 3 Zoom groups I am in work fine. Just way less fun than in person! The most people we have had is 20, I think more might be hard to manage. Less than 10 works best. Best of luck to you.

  2. My experience is that the zoom groups are small but then here they are just conversation groups. I'm thinking about doing a book club one where everyone gets to share the gist of the last book they read and what they thought? You are jumping into a project there, my friend. So far I am of the " we will find the meat but may be surprised philosophy" rather than the "oh shit there's a run on meat, let's stock up" group. And am full out carnivore.

    1. It is the time of the grocery scavenger hunt! Surprises are frequent lol. I'm glad I know how to cook and improvise.

  3. We've done one on ones, two - three people, and 100+ people. For the larger groups, recommended muting microphones as people come on, then remuting them after each speaker concludes. It gets too noisy otherwise as folks forget that every noise and background noise can be heard.

Over here we are reveling in moving to the beginning of Phase Two this week. Two of our local beaches are reopening for active usage beginning tomorrow, midweek mornings only, which works fine for us! So that, a picnic lunch afterward at a quiet park, and a perhaps stop for a to-go cup of coffee on the way home? So close to normal for us I'm figurative doing handstands!

    1. Sound lovely in terms of outdoor activity! We are still closed in this county with beaches open but parking closed so only for locals I think.

  4. We have entered phase one of reopening. I just hope it isn't too soon and people remember physical distancing must still take place.

    God bless.

  5. Heard on the news today that at least one of our Texas beaches was crazy this past weekend with no masks and no social distancing. I don't wish anyone ill (no pun intended), but it will be interesting to see how the governor deals with the fallout if all the reopening goes bad. It makes me so angry that he put in his order that masks are voluntary, and that his order supersedes local ordinances.

    1. I didn't realize he took away local control. I knew Georgia's law took it away but wow, just wow. I don't understand the minds of people who are oblivious to their own and other people's health just so they can have what they want right now at the beach but that is where we are it seems.
