16 Months After Our Move: Further Downsizing of Possessions

We have lived in this house long enough to know how our storage is working, what we are using and what is just sitting there and for the storage areas to get dusty - sigh.

I'm doing a round of closet and storage cupboard cleaning out while pulling out things that haven't been used and have no sentimental value. Throw in deciding what summer clothing in my wardrobe is on its last season and you have a minor downsizing in progress.

This is going to take some time!

Good. I need a new project.

What is up in your home in August?

  1. We looked at our onsite storage locker together yesterday. We have quite a lot that is of no sentimental value (like empty Rubbermaid) containers. It seems that we are storing storage items!!! I've got a couple of pair of shapeless capri pants that could go as well. Have you ever tried purging 5 items from each room? The decluttering goes quite quickly.

    1. Wow, storing storage items sounds expensive! I don't have a problem getting rid of things once I go through them so find regular deep cleaning and seasonal wardrobe changes work for me.

  2. We have downsized twice. I have purged SO MUCH STUFf and also sold/given away some thigns I did cherish, but as a new chapter of our lives unfolded, it was time for a change.. Now, 5 years into retirement, I find I seem to be collecting books again. I pick up a few every time I go to the thrift store and I DO NOT HAVE ROOM ON THE BOOKSHELVES for them. Time for another purge. Clothes: Guilty here, too..have been purchasing too many items at my fave consignment shop. Somehoe I've slipped into a buying mode once again and it's time for a purge and a belt tightening.I HAVE ENOUGH OF EVERYTHING. When I get the urge to go "browsing" I'm locking myself up in my art studio this week!!

    1. Yes, the urge to go browsing during retirement is a default time filler for many of us! Spending time in your art studio instead sounds great. We are headed to the beach for lunch which will be a good use of time instead of shopping.

  3. I advertised our portable dishwasher, giving it away, and was happy a man came today and got it. Hurray, it is no longer sitting in my kitchen. That counts as decluttering, I'm sure.
