Why can't shoes be comfortable and cute?

Earlier this year I bought a new pair of shoes for walking and they are supremely comfortable (and expensive).  Same brand I have been wearing and I got padded socks to wear which has made them even cushier.  I like the color and am willing to wear them running errands too, but I wouldn't say they are cute.

A week ago I was wearing these cuter ballet flats. Enter my physical therapist who looked down at my feet and said, "You really shouldn't wear those shoes!" and proceeded to have me go through a bunch of exercises to show why!  (She didn't particularly like another pair I wear in the winter with socks either, but they aren't as bad for me and I'm keeping them for now.)

So with a sigh and my credit card I went shopping today for shoes I could wear with slacks.  Thankfully I got word today that I have a consulting project this spring and it requires some on site work.  I found these Bandolino wedges that are super comfy!  They won't work with skirts or dresses but they sure do with slacks and dressier jeans.  It will take another shopping trip to get a good pair of pumps or kitten heels.

And then because I live in a 3 season hot/very hot climate, I bought a pair of Clarks bronzy brown sandals to wear with capris and shorts instead of wearing athletic shoes.  Again very cushy and comfortable.

So not really as cute as the fun shoes other bloggers are showing with their outfits, but my feet, back and hip joints are going to be happier!

  1. My hip/left leg does the absolute best with no shoes or Vibram Five Finger shoes. I especially like the Vibrams for exercise...took a long time for me to figure out what was best for me. Are they cute? Not so much but I wear them anyway...especially when I know I will be doing a lot of walking. Otherwise, I have had really good results with Clarks in general.

    1. Bliss - the Vibram shoes are pretty interesting looking! I have good luck with Clarks sandals but not their shoes unfortunately.

    1. Welcome - Glad to hear they work for you. I'm hopeful as they have the most padding of any shoe I've ever had.

  4. It's definitely a good idea to take care of our feet! The wedges are cute, personally I think they'd look cute with a skirt or a dress...

    1. Carla - Thanks. I agree that they would work this time of year with a skirt or dress. I was thinking they are too dark and heavy looking for summer clothes and since it is already getting warm here that is where my thoughts are going.

  5. I can so relate to your post! I recently got rid of most of my summer slip-on sandals as they were giving me shin splints and the physio said that they had to go. My most comfortable shoes are my walking shoes too, but they don't look great with most things! I like your wedges - must see if I can find them here. Another problem that I have with shoes is that the backs rub my heels.
I also have a denim dilemma - jeans either are too big around the waist or too tight and give me stomach cramps. I'm still looking for a comfortable pair that fit me.

    1. Well I vote yes to wedges - I wore them last night out to dinner and they were pretty comfortable. I guess they need to design shoes that mold to our feet to take care of all the size and shape variations LOL.

    2. Juhli, research the benefits of barefoot walking/running. Vibrams were made with this idea in mind. Makes a lot of sense but there are quite of few naysayers about it out there too. I walked tonight with my Vibrams on--first time all winter--I was in heaven, made me want to run and I hate running.
