Just a chair & your arms - Starting upper body workouts again

I was able to weigh myself finally six weeks after foot surgery and as expected I’ve lost a couple of pounds. Unfortunately it is most likely muscle loss both in my legs and arms so here I go with rebuilding strength yet again.

Walking is still awkward and I will start PT in a week or so thus decided to work on arm strength. A seated workout seemed wise and I found this one by a physical therapist which clearly showed I need to do this! No weights needed and no awkward moves.

It takes you through two rounds of a few exercises and the first time I only did one round. Obviously quite needed. We’ll see at the end of August how many times I did the routine. Goal is 2 times a week and being able to do the entire workout easily.

Seated Upper Body Workout

  1. I do a seated strength workout for legs and arms multiple times each week. I sit in my office or patio chair and among other things try and list my body from the chair with my arms multiple times a day. Note that I said try and I really barely get my butt off the chair. Lol.

    1. Good for you! Standing up from a chair without using arms is one of the PT exercises for my foot surgery recovery. I'll have to try it with using my arms.

  2. I can remember trying to build up strength in my hand and wrist after breaking it for the second time. At first I was lucky to get through one set of the PT exercises, but gradually found myself doing more and more. You will notice that each day it gets a bit easier.

    God bless.

    1. Absolutely! Perseverance is the key. Officially done with having to wear a walking boot today so the is good.

  4. Thanks for the link to the Upper Body Workout. I checked it out and plan to keep it. Lifting our grand daughter on the days we watch her, has really helped build my strength and I don't want to lose it. I'll bet your walking will improve quickly when you start PT. As I recall, you did well following your last surgery. One thing I know for sure is that it really does pay to try to keep our strength as we age.
