Taking an indefinite break

I've decided taking more time for other activities is what is needed in my life right now so headed away from the blog indefinitely.

Will still check on all the other lovely bloggers that I follow.

Have a great Spring!

  2. My blog has been a bit stale lately (understatement) since I've been working a lot with no time to write except for a couple of repeating features. I shall miss seeing your updates, but understand perfectly. Have a wonderful summer!

  3. Well, there's more to life than blogging, so good luck and god speed! And don't hesitate to come back if and when you're ready.

  4. Hi Juhli - now that you are taking a break I am hoping you will get this. We too are planning a big move from Seattle back to California so I am reading your posts all about your big move. As I read, I have some questions. Did you end up using the pod method of moving and if so, who did you use? Also did you end up moving to a 55+ community? As I read, I may have more questions and hope you are still checking in on your blog even if you are not posting right now.

    1. Wow, anopther returnee! We ended up renting a U-Haul truck which my husband and a friend loaded with the help of 2 hired college students. DH drove the truck and I drove the car with the dog We did move into a 55+ community in Camarillo, CA an easy drive to my FIL's assisted living facility. It has been a good decision because we were able to buy our new home without the whole bidding war scenario that we would have faced if we went to Pasadena or the Bay Area. Also it has been easy to meet people, get involved and make friends plus we have access to lots of sports and other recreational facilities. However I have also focused on making friends and activities in the larger community. Living in an HOA when you haven't done that before though takes a positive mind set and willingness to live by the regulations. Lots of lifestyle changes because of the move and it was disorienting orginally to try to find out way around and find the things we wanted and needed. Still looking for a good physician/medical practice but most everything else has come together. Please ask any questions you want and feel free to email me at juhlinewkirk@gmaildotcom with the period in place of the word dot. Are you coming to our end of California?

    2. Thanks so much, Juhli. I can't believe you moved yourselves. At my age I can't even contemplate that. You must have REALLY gotten rid of a lot of stuff. Anyway, we are returning to our hometown, where we lived for over 30 years and where we raised our family - the Monterey Peninsula (Pacific Grove). When we left we thought we would never be able to return because of the sticker shock but things are so hot up here in Seattle we think we can possibly swing it so that's the plan. I was fine with retirement until the last couple of years but now in a slump so it's time to go back to the friends and family. I have grandkids now in the East Bay so that's enough of a reason. Thanks for your response and I just might email you with more questions. I am enjoying reading about everything you did to get ready to move!

    3. Good luck with your move - sounds rejuvenating. And we did get rid of furniture that was old and large and then replace them to fit out new situation so we didn't move beds or a very large couch. The heavy lifting at both ends was done by hired help though.
