May: Week 1

We had to remind ourselves last night that we only arrived in our new home on April 19th and moved in on April 20th! Lots accomplished although I can't seem to list much for this past week.

Getting settled into our home has mostly taken priority over exercise and enjoyment. That will need to change soon. So what did we accomplish?

  • Decided not to paint all the walls  Decision: Paint feature wall & 3 dark ceilings; touch up wall paint; we will do it ourselves so we have now saved $3,000 which pays for the new water heater and golf clubs for my husband.
  • Unpacked some art work and a few more boxes; started clearing out the garage by putting all the boxes we are saving for a cousin's move into the garage attic.
  • Bought and set up a new multi-function printer. We went with a more expensive Brother one as the ink costs are much less over the expected lifetime.
  • Had some fun and personal time. Hubby bought a set of golf clubs and tried out the 9 hole course. We took some walks together and alone. I went to a musical performance and to the library.
  • We had brunch in Santa Barbara with our son, DIL and 5 mo old granddaughter as they were there for an event on her side - happy day.
  • Later that day we had dinner at a restaurant on the Ventura pier with a friend who was in town from Atlanta.

  1. Our favorite bakery/cafe in Santa Barbara is Renauds. They are know for their almond croissants. Excellent!!

  2. Just right. Enjoy yourselves and get to know the area. The boxes and chores can wait!

  3. After getting the quotes to paint my rental condo, I thought I should have learned how to paint walls and doors. It's great that you can paint and save so much. You looked very happy with your sweet granddaughter.

    1. It is costly. Our big stumbling block was not being able to pick out a better color so we are just fixing the worst areas.

  4. Adorable baby girl!

I find painting is harder with the open floor plans these days...when you start, there's no good stopping place. :) The majority of our house is similar to your room color you've shown previously, and has a big dark brown accent wall in the living room that requires scaffolding to paint. We have LOTS of windows, but it still seems dark in here. I've begun planting hints about repainting, but it could be awhile. :)

    1. This is the first time I've had an open floor plan house and you are correct. Our house is dark too and we wanted a light warm neutral that went with everything but were frustrated in our search for that. Now is not the time to paint the whole house but rather to enjoy our family and make new friends.

  5. Are you so happy to now live within driving distance of Santa Barbara? It's a jewel along our coastline for sure. And I'll add McConnell's Fine Ice Creams to Christina's recommendation above. Have them split your single scoop in two so you can mix and match flavors - yum!

    1. I do think we will be spending time becoming reacquainted with Santa Barbara and Ventura as we are so close to both now.
