We've been here before and as a federal employee Hubby just ignores the possibility of a government shutdown. He is a "non-essential" employee by the definitions used and would be sent home without pay if the shutdown occurs.
Since my corporate employment days when we knew that any day could bring layoffs we have made it a point to not live paycheck to paycheck and are very fortunate that it was possible to do so. I do remember the days of no savings when I was a poor student though and wonder how employees who may be in that situation are going to cope.
The situation also leads to thinking about cash flow once we are retired and there is no more money coming in to increase our savings or pay the bills each month from yet another paycheck.
Just some random thoughts on a gloomy, overcast day LOL.

Well, I get a federal pension and social security (and for now live on a very fixed income with little savings). Looks like the SS is okay -its electronic overall, but I can see my November Pension payment being screwed if they keep this up. And my SIL and BIL are military retirees. Not sure what will happen with that one!
ReplyDeleteEvery year. Every single year, they play this game. Arrgggg.
I definitely second your Arrggg! I haven't read anything about pensions but they are saying SS will be paid on time.
DeleteI feel your pain, Juhli, having done the paycheck to paycheck thing and now being retired and wondering if the downsized paychecks will cover everything. Have only been retired for three months and Hubby had a good month right before I retired so the reality of my smaller income hasn't hit yet. I hope everything works out with the Feds and you are not hit.
ReplyDeleteWe will be fine regardless as we are way beyond the paycheck to paycheck life. It is crazy to not know if the government will be functioning though and go through this year after year.
