Five Things #1

Big, small, good, bad, silly - they all count. Here's my five to start the year - which btw arrived when I was sound asleep!

1. We had a really enjoyable Christmas with a nice long visit from our older son and DIL plus the local ones and extended family on their side. Neighbors and family dropped by with homemade cookies and I made yummy pumpkin bread. It is nice to have the counter cleared of them though and be focused almost totally on healthy eating.

2. The pup partied hearty with all the family time plus 2 other dogs on some occasions. Back to our normal schedule.

3. The rain cycling through this week and on into next has so far given us some nice breaks including some with sun. Today we had the full daytime hours with no rain but it is coming back early this evening.

4. I'm building up on my exercise routine slowly now that I can use my foot and leg without pain. I'm also doing the "despised" housework in small bits daily which is more tolerable but still feels never ending (as we all know it is). I'm including some deeper cleaning (today was the main bath vanity inside) and decluttering in small amounts as I go.

5. I was happy to be gifted everything I asked for on my short wish list and happier that we could be generous to others with their gifts. Even happier that we had the ability to pay our second property tax installment today, pay off the credit cards and make contributions to the grandgirls' college funds.

  1. I have decided that the best way to get household tasks and cleaning done is to do it in 15 minute installments. That really works for me.

    God bless.

    1. I'm keeping it short too and hoping momentum keeps me going longer!

  2. I haven't taken the tree down yet. Hopefully I will get it done before the weekend is over.

    1. After 2 moves in 6 years we don’t have a tree anymore because I decluttered most of our holiday decorations. I miss the smell of a real one!

  3. it sounds like your year is off to a good start. I decluttered my fridge first thing, taking treats out of the house and sharing with co-workers. The only thing "bad" I have is some really good chocolate, which I MUST keep.

    1. I'm with you - I kept the chocolate I was given for Christmas but put it in the pantry.

  4. I bring some fresh pine branches into the house to get that Christmas tree smell. It's the greatest. I think they also make candles that smell like Christmas. Judging by your list of five you're in a good place and more importantly, you know it and appreciate it. Have a good New Year!
