It has been a good week. The weather is warming up, family time was fun, I'm working on getting my dinner planning mojo back and the pup is lots of fun as usual.
I’m going to try to not read the news through the weekend to see if it helps my mood. Has anyone done a news fast since the new administration took over?
1. Saturday we went to the 8 year old granddaughter's practice swim meet at her final swim team prep class. She sure does love being in the water and the bonus is it is such great exercise. I think she is enjoying getting strong as well as mastering of all the strokes.
2. Mother's Day we went to brunch at our son and DIL's. They fixed quite a feast. Hubby pitched in while the grandmother's got to enjoy the kiddos. At the end of the meal the 2 year old decided to sing us her repertoire of songs - Twinkle, Twinkle; ABCs; Itsy Bitsy Spider, and Old MacDonald. We were all singing along and laughing by the end. She has a very outgoing personality.
3. An across the street neighbor's house is now for sale. I hope the new neighbors are as pleasant as the others living on our little court. The house is in lovely shape and larger than ours. It is hard to tell if the market here has slowed or not so we are following the sale progress out of nosy neighborliness lol.
4. The pup is really warming up to the neighbor who will pet sit him while we go to the wedding at the end of the month. We went over to visit again and he very busily took off to check out all the rooms in her house as the curious pup he is. He asks to go to her door now each time we walk past her house.
5. Wedding attendance prep is almost done - clothes bought, car and plane reserved, gift purchased, dog info together, Uber back on my phone, and plans coordinated with our "kids". We are all going out to dinner on the night before the wedding before attending the drinks and nibbles evening event. Breakfasts at the condo thankfully.
6. We went to the nearby Pacific East mall and had a nice lunch. We planned to go to a dim sum restaurant but the wait was too long. We'll try again another time but enjoyed the restaurant we went to. We used to go to Chinatown in Los Angeles decades ago dim sum and it would be fun to do it again. I'd only driven by the mall before and now am curious about its history.
7. We really want to paint our large patio as the current paint is chipping a lot and currently is three different colors in places showing its history. The difficulty of finding a color that will work and we both like is real especially when your husband has a form of red-green color deficiency. We haven’t gotten the bid yet so it’s all ok but I always seem to block out how hard this is for us until we do it again!
Number 2 on your list is adorable! And we are right there with you on Number 3, as a home here went into escrow with it's first week on the market and many of us are curiously waiting to see if it closes, and at what price.
ReplyDeleteshe was very adorable and does like to perform
DeleteYour Mother's Day brunch sounds like lots of fun and I'm glad you found a pet sitter so close-by.
ReplyDeleteI have taken news breaks in the past but didn't during the firs 100 days of 45/47's administration. Since then I've backed off a little. It's exhausting trying to keep with the craziness.
Exhausting is absolutely correct. It just makes me angry and despairing for our country and for the individuals impacted - some horribly. And the waste of taxpayer dollars on stuff only the "rulers" want and a ridiculous amount of lawsuits rather than on things we all need. Getting riled up just thinking about the train wreck.
DeleteI am with you on the news thing. But I do want to stay informed. Since I cut out cable, though, there is not endlessly watching opinion shows. I just tune in for about an hour total, focusing on current events. I want to know what is going on in the world, but need to save myself from being sucked in to the black hole that the current political universe has turned into.
ReplyDeleteGood work on getting your pup comfortable slowly. Our dogs have always loved their time away from home because they love the people who watch them. It's a good sign that you're doing so well.
I’ve been doing the same with the news but want to try taking breaks too. Thanks for the encouragement about our pup.
DeleteI try to cut back some on news. Don't watch tv news much, but I do look at headlines via my phone in the morning to see if anything apalling happened aver night. I read a couple of things I subscribe to, and I listen to NPR in the car.
ReplyDeleteWas looking at calendar today, and realized we have a family wedding coming up in barely over six months, so before I know it, I will be in your shoes. (Not literally.) :)
Hah - I do have long feet 😊 I know I’ll be back to checking the news but want to see if taking weekend breaks helps.
DeleteI have also been trying to cut back on the news a bit. Weekends are probably when I cut back the most.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Good for you!
