What would you like to do or things you need to do that are hard for you?
By “hard” I mean for me physically difficult, requires entrenched habit changes, having to learn how to do something far out of my comfort zone or find the right person to hire, it is terribly boring and/or repetitive, or I would just rather not do it so keep procrastinating. I’m sure needing to make big decisions without enough knowledge is in there too.
So there you have a summary of my preferences and what I resist doing.
- I can identify issues and solutions easily, create a detailed action plan to address it and then don’t like slogging through the steps to implement it.
- I am very clear on what I need to do to achieve the changes I want but I’d rather read a book while snacking on carbs and drinking coffee or wine.
- I am quite confident except when it comes to my physical abilities and strength or having to network to find the right person to do something.
- I have a lot of knowledge and expertise most of which I don’t use in retirement and I find being a clumsy beginner very hard.
- Variety and thinking brings me joy; repetition or mindless tasks are a struggle mostly.
- And I’ve developed unhelpful habits that are enjoyable - like many people.
I have done all the things I need to do to do the hard things and I’ve made up my mind to push through my resistance and get those things done so I can enjoy the outcomes.
I’ve got quite a list of outcomes I’d like to achieve that require me to do “hard” for me stuff! Everything from deep cleaning (dislike it intensely ) to getting strong physically (major habit change and consistent effort) to finding a friend group to getting projects done around the house. There’s more but I won’t bore you with my long list.
Let’s get started.
It's that time of the year again, isn't it, when we evaluate our lives in minuscule detail. At least I think we have that in common. It may be a trait many of us bloggers share. Good luck with your 2025 motto!
ReplyDeleteI think living put that motto is going to be essential for my happiness this coming year. What are you thinking about for yourself.
DeleteI laughed out loud at statement #2. Who wouldn't rather read, nibble and sip than do hard work?? I think you need to give yourself a little grace on that!! But I understasnd what you are saying, Juhli. I don't have the get up and go and A personality drive I once had. I sit here, as I am typing this, thinking I need to take down the stockings, the tree, the outdoor decor, but I am still sitting here. Ha!!
ReplyDeleteI was pretty confident in my career but not nearly as confident in anything else I've ever attempted and this silly foot has made me so wobbly and cautious that I don't recognize myself. However, in the last 2 days it has felt better!! So maybe I can get back to me in 2025. Will be interested to follow along on your journey. I like the idea of a motto and like yours.
I suspect that you like me have spent most of your life doing the hard stuff because it had to be done. Finding a better balance now is the challenge.
DeleteI would much rather read and work on enjoyable projects as well. I told my Husband that I would get the tree and decor away over the next week, but I have a feeling that will be left for another week or even two.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
You have a lot of fun projects!
