I have no words to describe what happened yesterday or the fact that Trump, Giuliani and Don Jr incited violence and insurrection right before the mob attacked the Capital Building. Add in Ted Cruz, etc.
Democracy will still prevail and Biden will be President at noon on Jan 20 and the Democrats will control both houses of Congress. Good things will get done and damage from the Trump presidency will be rectified although it will probably take a generation.
We just have to survive the next 13 days.
It must be such a shock for the US citizens like you, but still consider yourselves lucky. At least you know democracy will prevail. In my neck of the woods, I am not sure.
ReplyDeleteI think we have seen in so many historical and some recent situations around the world that democracy can disappear quite quickly - and that is what has made Trump so scary. This time some elected officials decided to come down on the side of democracy for which I am very grateful. Thanks for pointing out the bigger picture.
DeleteI watched in shock and then became so sickened that I just had to turn the channel, and take time away from the computer. Here is hoping that your government has an easy and calm transfer of power now.

I’m sure there will be a transfer of power Jan 20. The concern is about what Trump and his goons do in the time they have remaining.

ReplyDeleteI agree. Although it did make me think abou the violence of the late 1960s and early 1970s. There were mostly peaceful anti-war and civil rights demonstrations but there also was violence including by the police and National Guard.

ReplyDeleteI was so appalled when I learned the head of the Capital Hill police refused major offered assistance in advance, the Defense Dept. refused to arm the DC National Guard troops or give them rules of engagement that would make them more than minor traffic controllers & some members of the Capital and DC police forces posed for selfies with rioters, helpfully directed them to Schumer's office, etc.
