Covid-19 Shutdown Diary Day 28: Four weeks

No pandemic worries here - just big hair!
Today is our 39th anniversary, but we decided to treat ourselves to a fancy take out dinner last night. Boy was it delicious! One of the more expensive restaurants in town is offering dinner specials for either 2  for $35 or 4 for $65. You get to pick from 2 salads, 4 entrees with starch & veggie, and 2 desserts. We had Caesar salad, chicken piccata, citrus salmon, and decadent brownie bars. Paired it with a nice bottle of Chardonnay I had picked up at the grocery store. Delicious and just the right amount! Usually we just go there for happy hour specials as it is quite expensive and the regular servings so large so this was a treat and the serving sizes just right.

Then we Facetimed with the Berkeley crew and learned our granddaughter got a large toy bunny for Easter and she named it Chloe. Chloe can do amazing things with help from her girl. She also "miss you so so much" many times over. Likewise!

Exercised and walked, read, worked a bit on background info for the women's club Presidency and tried to avoid looking out at the gloomy day. Thawed some chili that was in the freezer which was paired with leftover turkey meatloaf and salad for dinner.

Felt like an ordinary slow day which is good.

  1. It was gloomy yesterday, wasn't it? Maybe all the more so because Saturday was so gorgeous. I had a bit of a down day, likely due to missing being with our family for Easter. We did a Zoom session with everyone at dinner, though, and that did help. We all chatted for almost three hours, and got lots of blown kisses from our granddaughters.

This week I'm determined to return to our normal diet of plant-heavy meals. I've been planning much simpler meals due to all the various issues with grocery shopping yje pandemic initially created, but things have since calmed down substantially. My ongoing reading of COVID-19 seems to be pointing toward not being in close proximity for more than 10-30 minutes, which is not an issue whatsoever at the market currently. Stores are limiting the number of people that are inside at one time, so I'm going to try and return to a more normal shopping mode. Some of the prepared food I've been buying is pretty awful compared to what I make at home.

    1. I too am noticing that the stocks in grocery stores seem more normal and hopefully it will stay that way. I do think there will be shortages but what will be in short supply will change with how workers are affected by the virus. I've been looking at picking up a box of veggies at a local farm as an option but then I have to have what they chose.

  2. Happy Anniversary! Your dinner sounds delicious. We've been eating more since the pandemic. We ordered Greek food for Easter. It will be enough for 5 meals. I'm sure you must miss your little grand-daughter.
My daughter comes to the parking lot and takes our dog for a walk. She lives alone and works at home so she is happy to have Tilde's company for a while. Our weather has been beautiful and clear so I walk around and do a flower walk for exercise. I got some seeds to plant on the balcony. I will have nasturtiums for decoration and for salads. Stay safe!

    1. How great that your daughter can walk your dog and you can see each other at the same time.

  4. Glad you splurged for your anniversary. Congratulations on 39 years!! Amazing. We decided to splurge with pick up dinner but were disappointed. No salad. No baked potato. They subbed in rice, French fries, and mashed potatoes. A whole lotta starch!!
