Flu Shot? Done!

My annual reminder to get your flu shot!

Even if you aren't too concerned about getting the flu yourself, we need "herd immunity" to protect those who are too young to have one or have a health problem that makes getting a flu shot dangerous.

And remember it takes 2 weeks for your immunity to build up so please don't wait until flu season is in full bloom.

  1. I never forget! Even with it, last year I got a horrible case of the flu.

    1. Yes, that can happen. Either a new strain of flu or other illness with flu like symptoms. Glad you get it thought!

  2. I will soon. I usually do it around my birthday which is the end of September. Where did you get it? CVS? Walgreens?

    1. Great! Last year I had a scratchy throat and was tired for 2 days. This year just a tender spot where the shot was. Different vaccine formulas each year of course.

  4. Seeing this made me smile, because a couple of weeks ago when you asked for ideas for your - I R T - D - Y, I came very close to suggesting 'inoculate' for the 'I'. :) Very wise, and caring, to think of others' health and welfare as well as your own. I will definitely put that spin on it for my husband. He refuses to get a flu shot, but maybe if he considers it as a kindness/responsibility to his 89yo mother, he will think better of it.

    1. Don't you love the public health term of "herd immunity"? It really sums up the bigger picture.I have the same challenge with a family member who had a poorly given flu injection once in the wrong spot in the arm that caused a lot of arm pain and hasn't gotten a flu shot since. Does you MIL get a flu shot if she is able to handle it?

  5. I have never gotten a flu shot, but this post makes me wonder if I should.

    God bless.

    1. Wow, have you been lucky enough to not have the flu? I had a horrible case of it many years ago before flu shots were prevalent and once they were widely available have been getting one.

  6. Great reminder. And my pharmacy just called today to remind me that my booster for my pneumonia shot is due. I still have not got the new shingle shot..

    1. I was one of the first in line for the new shingle shot and made sure I got the second one in time. Both my parents had shingles twice and I don't want to suffer like that if I can avoid it! No guarantees but the new shot ups the odds of not getting it or getting a milder version if you do. I love the fact that we can avoid or minimize some diseases now.

  7. Thank you for the reminder. (My mother got hers weeks ago, but I have to time mine differently...) Looks like I have my first fall bucket list item.
